Three ways to get a bank statement into Excel

Copy-paste from a PDF reader works for one short statement. Excel usually puts everything in one column, dates run into descriptions, and a transaction that wraps onto two lines becomes two broken rows. It stops being practical past a page or two, or for a scanned statement with no text layer to select.

General PDF-to-table tools pull tables out of a PDF, but they do not know which column is the signed amount and which is the running balance, and they cannot tell you whether a row was skipped. You are left to foot the balances yourself.

Ledgerary knows the shape of a statement: an opening balance, dated transactions with signed amounts and running balances, and a closing balance. It checks that the opening balance plus the net of every extracted transaction equals the closing balance printed on the statement, flags any mismatch, and attaches a confidence score.
